Murphy’s Riverside Cottage

Murphy’s Riverside Cottage (On the River)

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Full Futon, 1 Bath (Sleeps 6)

The Murphy family would like to invite you to stay in their 1930’s Arts & Crafts style cottage which sets on the banks of the Big Thompson River.

The cottage has a large deck where you can actually fish right from the deck or just sit and relax while listening to the soothing sounds of the river. You can also look out at the wonderful views of the Mummy Range, which is part of Rocky Mountain National Park, watch the abundance of wildlife, or just enjoy the sunshine. And then after all that fishing and hiking you can come back and enjoy the private outdoor hot tub overlooking the river.
The south entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is about a mile west of the cottage and downtown Estes Park is about a mile east.

This cottage is available year round.

Spacious older cottage right on the Big Thompson River
This property was just what we wanted for our family of 5 during our visit to Estes Park. Plenty of room, probably could have slept 7 comfortably. Falling asleep to the sound of the river right outside our window was amazing. No A/C was no problem during the hottest part of the year for us as there were enough operable windows and plenty of fans included. Don’t expect everything to be new and shiny as this is an older cottage. Some of the windows were difficult to operate or painted shut. One windows was broken and patched over with cardboard (not a big deal and hopefully just a temporary thing). But all-in-all none of these things were a problem for us. The location was wonderful with just a short drive to Rocky Mountain National Park and downtown Estes Park. Plenty of space for parking a couple of cars if you need to. The hot tub is nice, nestled between the cottage and the river. The back deck with its large table and chairs was a great place to eat meals and watch the sun rise over the river and set over the mountains. The pictures on this site do not do the location justice. Waking up to mule deer does and fawns outside your window is wonderful. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom, while quaint, was adequate, with good water pressure. There were plenty of towels, utensils, etc. included and the washer and dryer were great for keeping us supplied with fresh towels throughout our stay. If you are looking for quaint, scenic, and quiet but close to everything, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for modern luxury over all else then it may not be.

We had a wonderful time staying in this cabin. It’s close proximity to the RMNP is perfect. The river behind the house is great and there’s nature to be seen in every direction. The area is nice and quiet…a few neighbors. So perfect if looking to get away from it all. The house itself is very well appointed and very clean. The kitchen has plenty of pots, pans, etc. I’ve been to many rentals where there’s only a few plates/cups. So this was great. It has 2 bedrooms but the sun room on the front of the house was used as a bedroom. It has a full size futon. We really enjoyed our stay and would

Wonderful Time on the River!

We stayed for 3 nights with our family of 4 young children. Prior to choosing this Cottage, we had a hard time of deciding between all multiple options to stay in Estes Park. I have to say that I was very pleased with our selection. I much more enjoyed being on the River and having a feeling of being secluded while stile being within 5 minutes of Downtown Estes Park. Once we got a bearing of driving around town and visiting the Park, I felt it was better being halfway between travel to Downtown Estes Park and the RMNP Entrance 7-8 Miles down the road. We enjoyed the views of the peaks, the Elk, Deer, Chipmunks, Rabbits and many types of Colorful Song Birds that you don’t get to see in the Big City. I especially enjoyed fishing and being joined with hummingbirds each evening. I also enjoyed keeping the windows open and I didn’t feel there were all that many bugs while enjoying the outdoors in the evenings and nights. The River is quite cold and filled with slick boulders, I recommend that you bring your Waders and Felt Bottom Boots to be able to properly fish the river. Overall the Cabin was a great Fortress of Solitude to retreat to after a long day of hiking and exploring and our kids really enjoyed the house and the river. My Wife even turned to me after the 3rd and final night and asked me how she was going to be able to sleep without the noise of the river to help her sleep each night back home. I can’t recommend this property enough and we were very pleased with the amenities and location of the property. We would definitely stay here again when we return to Estes Park.Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway.

My family and I could not have been happier with the cabin. The kitchen has everything you might need, we just went to the grocery store and bought the food. So happy there was a propane grill! There was plenty on room for the 5 of us. Each day SO many elk came through the yard, there were hummingbirds having coffee with me in the morning on the deck. The river was beautiful. When I got this email asking for a review, my heart sank a bit because I am not still there. Thank you for being a great company!

We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It feels like it’s in the remote countryside, but there are plenty of restaurants and stores just a few minutes away. We saw several deer in the yard, and one day there was even a bear! I wish we could have bought it and stayed there for ever!Recommended for: Sightseeing, Girls Getaway, Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway.

Loved our stay at the Fishing Cottage in Estes! Very easy to find and located at convenient distances from Downtown Estes and Rocky Mountain National Park. The cottage was clean, stocked, and felt like home away from home. The photos DO NOT accurately reflect the property because the property is MUCH BETTER in person! Totally blown away by how nice and spacious all the rooms in the cottage are. First VRBO experience and it was absolutely painless, easy, and much fun. Would recommend this to anyone. We had a fabulous 5 nights at the cottage – we were concerned about the recent fires, yet the air was clear and the afternoon rains were consistent which was GREAT for the area. The cottage was GREAT in that it was really spacious and would have easily accommodated 6 people. It was only 10 minutes to town and hearing the river constantly was just fabulous!!! The deck was great and fun to eat out on or drink coffee while watching for critters! Would highly recommend this cottage and we met Mike, the owner who is your typical VERY NICE Colorado person… the people in CO are simply super nice and down to earth – was hard to come back to the South East!!! Great cabin with tons of space. Secluded enough to have lots of privacy but extremely convenient to town and RMNP. Check-in/out was easy and everything was clean and in great condition. Cooking out and dinner on the double deck overlooking the river was perfection – highly recommend this cabin.Recommended for: Families with Young Children, Sightseeing, Adventure Seekers, Age 55+, Romantic Getaway, Families with Teenagers.

My partner and I stayed in the cabin for several nights in Aug ’08. The roaring river in the back was wonderful. We cooked in for dinner the whole time we were there and enjoyed eating out on the large deck in the back. Short drive to downtown Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Had a wonderful trip!
